Introduction:

Overhead Door Company of Fort Worth was tasked with not only installing Overhead Door Model 994 doors but also testing multiple sensing devices to increase efficiency in this unique harsh environment at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Problem:

The doors are located in the baggage terminal and are tasked with retaining the heat underneath the airport in the cold winter months while allowing the tugs to move bags from the planes to the baggage area.

Solution:

The initial testing of the doors included multiple types of activation ranging from saw-cut ground loops to multiple sensor technologies to overcome the variables as each door was placed in a unique location. The purpose of this testing was to narrow down the most reliable sensing device.

Result:

With the in-person help of OPTEX, along with late-night phone support, we were able to achieve what we set out to accomplish with every door having its own unique scenario in the way vehicles approach the doors. The OAM-EXPLORER, with its dual technology and independent lenses, was the only sensor that could adapt easily to each location. The app was a learning curve but proved to be invaluable as it allowed the technicians to make preset templates and transfer them to other sensors, only having to fine-tune frequencies and sensitivities for each individual door.

About the OAM-Explorer:

The OPTEX OAM-EXPLORER is both an activation and supplementary safety sensor that improves the safety and effiency of Industrial Doors, utilizing a large microwave detection area for activation and infrared technology for safety around the threshold.
